Empathetic Integrative Counsellor & Social Scientist

Hello! Welcome, my name is Kendall. I am a professionally qualified Integrative Counsellor (Dip, MBACP) trained in a number of tools and theoretical frameworks that are tailored according to your needs. I am also a trained social scientist (MA, Sociology, Goldsmiths). The combination of the two studies allows me to see how our individual experience is linked to the ecologies of the systems and structures in place. Factors such as abuse, addiction, chronic pain, loneliness, poverty, racism and others, do not occur in isolation to the individual’s experience nor are they strictly limited to childhood.

I follow the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and am part of the Psychologists for Social Change network.

I am an outsider having lived abroad for 20 years of my life in a handful of different countries. This exposure means I don’t take being understood for granted and I don’t work on assumptions. Using clean language and being sure clients feel really understood is a significant part of my job. As a result of being foreign and ‘othered’, I am drawn to value and explore differences - be they neurodivergent, intergenerational, racial, cultural and so forth - and how that impacts a life and the therapeutic relationship.

Prior to retraining as a counsellor, I worked as a journalist and moved into creative media and social research working with national UK charities related to public arts, education, public health, and international human rights. These different sectors and organisations have made me very au fait with workplace issues and the power dynamics in place. As part of my values, I try to be a leveller of these inequalities in therapeutic and supervisory relationships and work with difference and diversity in an open and curious way.
